Late this summer I dragged my dad to the doctor, his second visit in over 50 years, due to ongoing pain in his chest. We were horrified to learn through a series of tests that our worst fears were confirmed. My dad, my hero, my bestfriend, a role model and icon to my daughter, and an extremely well known member of this community was diagnosed with cancer in his right lung and left rib bone. It was bad. Really bad and we were handed the word terminal. I can't describe what that felt like, total devastation doesn't even scratch the surface. We start treatment tomorrow, and my dad says, "I would rather the treatment kill me, than just allowing the cancer to do so!" I have always admired his strength. So here we are, asking for help from our community. Over the next few month of treatment to give us more time with dad, we are going to try and fill our time with beautiful memories, I need to be there with dad as much as I can, which means taking more time off work. Dad has been denied disability benefits from the government because he is already on a seniors pension....but is unable to work anymore, and $240 monthly from his seniors pension isn't enough to live on. We would like to go to science world while dad is still in relatively good health. Anyone who has ever loved anyone taken by cancer...knows the road ahead for us. It is so hard to ask for help.
