Carlos and I met Paulina, an undergraduate (Senior - Spanish B.A. ) at UCLA while a taking a Spanish class. While studying together she mentioned the difficulty of moving around in her wheelchair. This is a chair that she is currently renting due to her innacessibility to health care and that is not fit to her body. Her previous wheelchair was given to her 5 years ago and due to her hectic schedule it wore out.
We ask everyone if they can donate whatever $ they can to this cause. We have decided to add a few words from herself that better explain her situation:
" Being a Dreamer(undocumented) Student I had the privilege of coming to UCLA but my personal life has encountered many obstacles. Having cerebral palsy has confined me to a wheelchair permanently. I use the chair on a daily basis for all my activities. The lack of healthcare has prevented me from accessing a wheelchair fit to my body. Part of being undocumented entitled the lack of healthcare, which I have encoutered to the core. Due to this, I have seen more obstacles than before and I ask you all to donate to my cause. I would like to continue my dreams in higher education and wouldn't like the prize of a wheelchair to stand in my way. My daily schedule consists of commuting 19 miles from South L.A. to UCLA which takes me 4 hours each day (Monday - Thursday). I use my wheelchair for everything."
