Update April 6, 2022

Great news! Earlier this week we had Koda’s blood work done. I’m happy to tell you his blood work is almost back to normal. Koda still has anemia due to FIP but this is also almost in normal range! In 4 weeks we’ll have his blood work done again. Koda is doing really well, however his skin is starting to react to the treatment. This means he has some bumps on his back, his skin is irritated and he’s having some bald patches now. We bought Koda a shirt to give his skin some time to heal and stop him from excessive licking.

Update March 20, 2022

15/84 I’m happy to tell you that since a few days Koda is starting to feel more and more like his old self again. He’s still a bit distant, but we’ve had a few cuddles (purring included) and he’s been eating better everyday. He has lost a lot of weight over the past month. We come from force feeding 6 times a day so you can understand how happy I am that he’s eating on his own now. Today he also played with his favorite feather toy for a brief moment (check out our story!). The injections are definitely getting harder each day, but he’s taking his medicine like a champ. I’m the proudest cat mom! ❤️

Update March 14, 2022

Koda is definitely doing better than before we started the injections. He started eating little bits by himself again and cleaning himself. He is still lethargic and sleeps almost all day. Thank you all for making Koda’s treatment possible. It means the world to me. ❤️‍

Update March 8, 2022

Dear friends, we just received a phonecall from the vet. Koda’s PCR test came in positive. Koda has FIP. It hurts so much to write this. Luckily FIP does not have to be a death sentence anymore, I followed my gut feeling last weekend and started the treatment. The treatment will be very intense and expensive. I’m going to have to inject Koda myself for 84 days and after this there’ll be an observation period of another 84 days. There are no improvements on how Koda feels yet, but we hope there will be soon. Please think of us. ❤️

———————————————————————————

Hi everyone,

I never thought I would have to come to this point but I have to try for Koda. We have been really struggling financially for the past year, but ofcourse I’m willing to try everything in my power to give my kitties the best life possible.

As you all know Koda has not been feeling well for the past few weeks. We started treating him on Feb 25th for his fever, he was tired and started eating less and less everyday. At that point we didn’t know where the fever came from so we did some bloodtests, his snap test for pancreatitis came out “abnormal” so this needed another test to confirm it. Pancreatitis confirmed. But there were more abnormalities in his results. Koda’s potassium levels were also low because of malnutrition so intravenous supplementation was required, he had to stay at the clinic for a night. This is the moment we also started treatment for pancreatitis, unfortunately there is no medicine to cure pancreatitis, only pain killers & medicine to prevent nausea.

When Koda got home I felt like he was doing a bit better, he started cleaning himself again and he had some treats. It was the next day that he lost all interest in food and I had to start syringe feeding him. I had no idea what I was doing and my heart broke everytime. I spoke to some others that have experienced a cat going through pancreatitis too, which gave me hope. I got some tips and now I’m helping Koda to eat multiple times a day.

Koda’s liver and kidney values were perfect, by the way. We decided to make an ultrasound to see if there’s any abnormalities around his pancreas or anything else that could cause the inflammation. There were no abnormalities found with his other organs, but they did find quite some fluid in his belly. They decided to take a sample and let it get checked for FIP. This will take a few more days and we expect to know more on March 9th. It’s also still a possibility that the fluid is coming from his pancreatitis..

I don’t want to wait till Wednesday and have talked to a lot of people about Koda’s story. This made me decide to start treating FIP immediately, while waiting for the results. This is not going to be harmful for Koda if FIP is not going to be the diagnosis and we will stop immediately if that is the case. If it is, we started 5 days earlier and hopefully save a life. It’s a very expensive and intense treatment.

I’m 200% not ready to give up on Koda. He is only 7 years old and up until a few weeks ago he was a happy and healthy little purring machine. He is literally the sweetest cat and I can’t imagine life without him. Also his sister Lily can’t imagine her life without him cleaning her princess fur.

Thank you so much for reading till the end.
