Our Goal

Turning Pages is on a mission to provide children with books to support their literacy development by building their home libraries. Access to books is integral to a child's literacy development, academic achievement, and love of learning. In fact, according to Jeff McQuillan's "The Literacy Crisis: False Claims, Real Solutions" (1998), having books in the home is the most significant predictor of academic success, regardless of race, income, gender, parents' education, or location. By working together, we can address this social inequality and empower children with literacy skills that will set them up for success in school and life.

Why is Literacy Important to Turning Pages?

Turning Pages was started to address literacy and the inequities of access to books that hold many students back academically, socially and economically. We are a group of teens in the Tri-state area who believe literacy is essential to help young kids excel in school and life. Our vision is to create a world in which books are in all children's homes, and everyone has the opportunity to become life-long learners.
