It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved brother-in-arms, Petty Officer First Class Steven “Crystal” Glasscock, US Navy Combat Air Crewman. Steven proudly served as an In-Flight Technician with the legendary VP-1 Screaming Eagles, aboard the venerable P3C Orion, dedicating himself to the mission of keeping his crew safe and operational. His unwavering commitment to duty, quick wit in the face of danger, and compassionate spirit made him a pillar of strength for fellow sailors and loved ones alike.

A Life of Service and Sacrifice

From the moment he reported aboard, Steve embodied the Screaming Eagle ethos. He spent countless hours maintaining aircraft systems, troubleshooting critical issues at 200 feet off the deck while prosecuting submarines, and ensuring crew readiness on every patrol. Off the flight line, he was known for mentoring junior aircrew, sharing stories of deployments, and fostering the tight-knit bonds that define VP-1. In his free time, Steve volunteered at base events, supported local veteran outreach programs, and always took care of those around him, his legendary nickname “Crystal” reflecting the clarity and kindness with which he navigated life’s challenges.

Caring for His Wife, Patty Glasscock

Shortly before his passing, Steve reminded everyone how deeply he cherished his wife, Patty. Now, Patty finds herself overwhelmed with grief, facing the daunting task of arranging Steve’s final honors. As Steve’s family, we want to ensure that he receives a dignified burial at the National Cemetery Annex in Roseburg, Oregon, complete with full military honors, so that Patty can focus on healing rather than financial burdens.

Why We Need Your Help

Military honors burials and associated costs at a national cemetery can be substantial. While the Department of Veterans Affairs will provide ceremonial support, there are still expenses for transportation, headstones, service fees, and other final arrangements. To give Steve the farewell he earned through decades of service, we are turning to the VP-1 Screaming Eagle family, and the greater veteran community, to help close this chapter with dignity and respect.
