Kenya Intersex Kids - Tee, Angel, and Tabitha

I’m Dorris Kagendo. I’m a young woman in Nairobi, Kenya.

I’m taking care of three intersex children; Tee, Tabitha, and Angel. They are aged 8, 14, and 15. I'm Tee’s sister, and Tabitha and Angel’s cousin. They were being abused in our home town of Taita Taveta, where being intersex is seen as a bad omen. I rescued them.

I’ve placed the older two in the Angel Catholic school in Mombasa, where they’re learning a vocation (both are learning hairdressing). Tee stays with me and goes to Twinkids academy.

School costs money in Kenya, and I’m a single mom with 3 kids. I’ve started a promising career in media, but I’m very much a junior staffer on a limited income.

I need help to support three children. Effectively, I’m running a small group home for intersex kids.

So I’m asking for help for the children’s schooling. Here’s the costs for this coming year:

Tee’s school is yearly 214$. I also need 33$ for books and supplies and 20$ for uniforms.

Angel and Tabitha are 8 months from completing their hairdressing course. It will cost $328 for tuition for them to complete the course.

After that they’ll have a vocation. I can set them up with a small hair salon on a back Nairobi street for about 500$. I can support them with food and housing while they set the shop up and get it going.

I’m asking for your help to raise 1095$ to support these three great intersex kids in making a success of their lives.

This campaign is being run with the help of Trans Rescue, (https://transrescue.org), a Dutch charity that helps trans and intersex people get out of dangerous places. They helped me escape, get established in Nairobi, and helped me get the children out of abuse.

Money is being deposited in their director, Anne Ogborn's personal account, to maintain a separation from Trans Rescue's main fund, as TR does not maintain people they won't be moving. All money will be transferred promptly to Dorris by Anne.
