Gypsie's Leg Surgery
Donation protected

Hi! My name is Gypsie Rose, or Gypsie, or Gyppie. I'm a hyper, intelligent, and loving pup; I'm also a service dog in training! I'm only a year and 2 months old but I'm a big snuggle bug and I love solving problems. My latest problem was that my mommy and daddy went to buy groceries and I wanted to go with them! I used my brains to open the door and try and go after them. I think I was hit by a car (we live off a 4-laned highway), I got a nice bump on my head but my front right leg was shattered pretty badly. I managed to limp all the way back home and I curled up in the bed until Mom and Dad came back. I waited for them at the door, I was in a lot of pain. Mommy and Daddy were very scared and sad that I got hurt. They rushed me to the nearest 24 hour vet and I got this fancy cast. They brought me to my regular doctor today and the options were amputation or pins and plates. I want to keep my leg, but I know mommy and daddy can't afford that much. We're all asking for your help to help me save my leg and keep me a normal 4 legged dog. Though I wouldn't be sad as a tripod either, I've been getting around pretty well with the cast on.

When we came home we were both devastated to see our dog in the doorway with her paw in the air dangling like a limp noodle. Her front right leg was shattered pretty badly and it was lacerated. Thankfully there were no other injuries other than a minor cut near her eye. She's currently on pain, anti-inflammatory, and anti-biotics for the time being, but her leg as it is wont heal properly. We went to see her regular vet, they don't have the resources to fully pin and plate her leg and would have to outsource it. He guessed it'd be anywhere between $1800-$3000 (just a guess, not an actual estimate). He suggested amputation and that's the route that we are going down so far. Her appointment is set for 8:30am Wednesday. If we can raise the money to save her leg then we will take the high road and get it pinned and plated and put her on the long road to recovery and save her leg. Gypsie loves to swim and go kayaking with us, she loves running and jumping, she loves to play fetch. While we wouldn't love her any less, we want her to be able to be the dog she was meant to be.

While I doubt we would be able to raise the money in time with such short notice, we want to try any way. We can afford about $1000-1500 of the bill which may get us half-way. I'm doing this as an all-or-nothing because I don't feel right taking any money for a procedure I can afford (the amputation which is $950). If we don't hit at least $3000 (or pretty close to it) by 8:00am Wednesday 2/6/17 then we will refund all of the donations. I don't have an estimate for the leg repair, just an educated guess from the vet so I wanted to make sure there was a buffer. Any money over the cost of her surgery will go straight to her recovery, then the rest will go to a fellow dog owner(s) in need on gofundme.
Every little bit gets us closer to saving our dog's leg.
Thank you for any and all help,
Kaine, Ashleigh, and Gypsie
UPDATE:
Since we've had so much momentum on the first day, we've decided to cancel the amputation and go with getting her arm plated back together. We'll keep you all posted with what happens and what the surgery costs will be. Thank you all so much!
