My one-year-old cat Sushi was just diagnosed with dry FIP, a disease that is fatal without treatment. My vet says his prognosis is 2 to 4 months, unless I pursue treatment.
I adopted Sushi from Austin Siamese Rescue last December, and he is the sweetest cat I have ever had. He follows me everywhere like a puppy, loves to be held and petted, and even wags his tail when he's happy. He also growls at the Chewy delivery guy each month when he leaves packages at our door, which I actually find kind of endearing.
Sushi is best friends with my other kitty Jupiter. Unfortunately, Sushi has had chronic GI issues since I've had him. Initially we thought it was IBD, but as the symptoms worsened (he was quickly losing weight and refusing to eat), I took him in for a second opinion where he was properly diagnosed.
The photos below were taken just six weeks apart. He is 5.3 pounds now.

There is no FDA-approved treatment in the US; however, there is a drug (Mutian) that has been successful in approximately 90% of the cases. Unfortunately, the cost of the 12-week treatment is $5000, and that does not include the additional vet visits and labwork Sushi will need to receive during and after the treatment.
I realize there are other suppliers out there for FIP treatment, and I respect everyone's choices for how they treat their own cats. I am going with this supplier, because they have the drugs here in the US, shipment is much faster (next day instead of a month coming from China), the medication does not cause kidney damage, and they offer the treatment in oral form, which is not painful to the cat and much easier for me to administer. The injections are quite painful, and Sushi is not a good candidate for shots.
My other cat fell ill in March, and I almost lost him to a "virus of unknown origin." Jupiter required multiple hospitalizations and continued care to heal. This year alone I have spent $4300 on my cats for veterinary care, and as I much as I would like to, I am unable to cover the cost of Sushi's treatment alone.
My overall expenses for treatment will be closer to $6500, when you factor in additional vet visits, product shipping, and labwork. However, if I can raise at least $5000, I think I can cover the rest.
Sushi is a very good candidate for the treatment, which I will be administering daily. He does not have FIV, FeLV, or any neurological symptoms. And he is in the early stages, so by treating him now, he has a much better survival rate.
I have Sushi on steroids and antibiotics for palliative care to keep him comfortable until I can begin the FIP treatment. Because time is of the essence, I am going to purchase a week's supply today to get him started on the treatment.
If you can donate today so I can continue to cover the expense of Sushi's FIP treatment, I would be so grateful.
The treatment is for 84 consecutive days, and I will be needing to purchase Sushi's medication in stages as I monitor his progress and weight gain to ensure I administer the correct dosage.
For those of you who would like to follow Sushi's progress, I will be posting updates on Instagram @adventuresofsushithecat.
I realize this is a big ask, as this has been a hard year for many of us. So if you are unable to give, I would be so grateful if you would share this fundraiser with others and ask them to donate whatever is comfortable for them.
Many thank-yous,
Diana, Sushi, and Jupiter
