Millie, my baby, my best friend, was recently diagnosed with cancer and is scheduled to have a life-saving surgery on Feb. 5, 2024.
Millie is a beautiful black retriever mix. She was dropped off at a kill shelter and thankfully rescued by another shelter that housed her for 6 months.
I adopted Millie in Sept. 2023 after attending the funeral of my own psychiatrist in Lubbock, TX. I drove from Houston, 8 hours to and fro. I knew this dog was saving me just as much as I was saving her.
Millie has the sweetest soul and the most loyal, playful energy. She goes into work with me everyday, serving as a secondary therapist to all my patients. As she sits on the couch and reaches out her “helping paw” to others, I am asking for a “helping hand” from my fellow humans.
The speciality veterinarians said that she has a very hopeful type of cancer, in which they plan to remove the mass and suspect she will gain a full recovery. She does not have any other underlying health conditions.
I was quoted nearly $5,000 for this life-saving procedure. But for a dog who also saved my life - Well, I’m doing everything I can to try to re-save hers. This fundraiser is to make her most recommended treatment possible.
Anything helps.
