Many of you visiting this fund may not know Brendan Harkins as well as I do, but let me start by saying once you do it’s impossible to ever forget such an amazing person. Brendan has the biggest heart I know, he’s funny, strong, intelligent, artistic and most importantly he’s a God loving man!! Even though he is faced with all this at the moment, he is still in good spirits and I pray he remains this way from here on out.
His story begins on July 29th at an urgent care clinic where Brendan expressed some concerns about a pain he had been experiencing to the Doctor. That doctor immediately referred him to an Urologist! That same day the specialist was troubled by what he saw and sent Brendan on his way to have a sonogram done. Unfortunately, the results pointed towards Testicular Cancer. On August 5th he was informed he would have to undergo Surgery Friday, August 7th to remove the possible cancerous area. Brendan underwent a 2 hour surgery to have his testicle removed for testing. After a few days of recovery the biopsy came back and they diagnosed him with Stage I Testicular Cancer. The urologist sent him in for a CT scan to determine whether or not it had spread. Sure enough, it did. Once the full results were in they told him it was more serious than they originally thought and deem it Stage IIB with spots showing on his liver from his CT scan. They were told if the results come back that the cancer has spread to his liver he would then be considered Stage III. Now while he's trying to process all this he was also informed he would have to under go an intense round of Chemotherapy for 3 months. Starting on August 31, 2015 he will have his first Chemo Treatment, which will last 4 hours for 5 days the first week, 2 days the 2nd week and 1 day the last week and he will repeat this 2 more times. His results came back on the CT scan about the Liver on August 26th and they were highly suspicious it is cancerous so the Doctors had decided to attack it as Stage III Testicular Cancer. Since then he recivied an MRI scan that in fact comfirmed that the spots on his liver were no long a concern and NOT cancerous!! So he moved back down to Stage IIB which is not ideal, but it is better. Needless to say this will be an emotional, physical and financial strain on him and his very supportive girlfriend Katie. When he receives his Chemo treatment and multiple checkups he is required to pay a co-pay, he will be out of work for 3 months if not longer, plus additional medical bills and medications that he will have throughout this whole process. So please join me by showing your support to this amazing young man who deserves so much more than this. Thank you and may God Bless you for your kind donations and Prayers!
