My name is Michael and I am sending this out on behalf of my brother Steve to help him with the current and upcoming medical bills he is dealing with. He is facing upwards of a total $40,000 in costs.
Late on November 23, 2020 when getting off the train he was attacked by 3 assailants and taken to Cook County Hospital in critical condition. His lower jaw was separated in 2 places causing extensive damage to his teeth and destroying the permanent retainer on his lower teeth. Also his nose was broken, major damage to his right eye socket, multiple cuts requiring stitches, and was concussed.
Three days later he had Oral Surgery to insert plates and screws to reconnect the lower jaw, remove a wisdom tooth and the permanent retainer. A second surgery the same day to repair his broken nose and stitch up the multiple cuts on his face from the attack. Surgeries were 5 hours combined with 4 more hours of recovery. After release he was given some vocal and other exercises to help prevent scarring and permanent limitation of his jaw. He was also advised to get a care provider for the 5 days post surgery.
Steve is now facing multiple root canals and crowns due to the separation in his jaw. Loss of the permanent retainer and wisdom tooth has also cause shifting of his lower teeth.
Needless to say he is facing some extensive dental work and unfortunately he did not have medical insurance at the time of the attack so none of these expenses...emergency room, surgeries, dental work...have been covered. He's reached out to a dental school to do the work at a reduced cost and looked for other avenues for help, but the expenses are extensive and growing.
Steve is a proud man who doesn’t like to ask for assistance. Those of you that know us and our relationship will understand what I mean by saying I believe that despite his past transgressions, he has worked extremely hard to make up for the past. He offers support and help to almost anyone he sees in need and I know his friends would all back me when I say he is the first to step up to help when they are in need.
The amount I put up would only cover a portion of his costs. We both know this is a difficult time for many, but anyone who can offer some support would receive our love and gratitude!
Thanks for reading this message...and your love and support!
