On my moms birthday, August 11th, her mother passed away. On the 12th my moms blood pressure was 206/110. She was taken to urgent care and from urgent care she was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with meningioma, a type of brain tumor. Although its the more common type of brain tumor it's the size and placement. Most people don't have any symptoms and can live on what they call watch and wait. Where they have MRI's every year to monitor the growth. Her tumor is on the cerebellum and brainstem. Its pressed against a couple nerves. She has lost most of her hearing out of her left ear and her vision is getting worse. She's been confused, off balance, dizzy, nauseas. In the last 3 months and especially the last week I've seen her fall quite a few times. These are just some of the symptoms she's been experiencing that have gotten worse in the last two weeks.
She was discharged from the hospital and a few days later was back for a cat scan on her stomach where they found she has an ovarian cyst, gastritis, upper gastrointestinal bleed and colitis.
She is now on so many different medications. Antibiotics, a medication to prevent seizures, nausea, pain meds, something for the stomach hemorrhaging, etc.
This woman has fought tooth and nail to be where she is today. Before her diagnosis she was working long days as a manager. 60+ hours a week. Each and every single day she tried to better herself. She recently was hired to start a new and better job selling electronics but, unfortunately cannot work at all due to the tumor. She was SO excited to start her new job.
Barbie has fought all of her life. She has fought homelessness, she has left an abusive relationship so she could focus on guiding her children to a better life. She has gone hungry so her children could eat. This woman has fought for EVERYTHING she has. I've never met a more determined person in my life.
All she wants is for her family to be okay and all we want is for her to be okay. She cries every day because she is no longer able to do what she loves and that's making a life for her and her family. She needs all of the love and support from friends and family.
So I'm asking everyone.. Friends, family, strangers. I need everyone to rally behind her and help in anyway.
Right now she is having a hard time coping. When the neurosurgeon said to her this was a dangerous surgery and she could have deficits afterwards... she cried. Instead of crying for herself she was crying for her children because even when faced with something that could kill her she still worries about what we will go through without her if something would happen.
Right now I don't want her to focus on anything except for being healthy. So please whether you donate or share this ANYTHING is appreciated. We just need her 1000% focused on recovery which can take a long time.
We refuse to think of a life without her. She's only 53 and she's not allowed to go anywhere anytime soon.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this. A big thank you to the people who have reached out to check in on her and to help her already. We appreciate all of you so very much.
The goal is so high because right now she has no idea when she will be able to go back to work. The minimum recovery is 6 months but the surgeon said it could be years because this will be a major surgery and she may have deficits afterwards. We just don't want her to have to stress about her bills being paid. So far she's paid for her medication out of pocket. Her insurance won't cover the out of state care in Pennsylvania. Only time will tell. Thank you.
