Ren’s Transition Fund

Hi, my name is Ren Hohneke.

I am 26 years old and I’m a deaf trans woman. I use she/they pronouns. I live in Washington, DC.

I am asking for your help to secure stability in my living situation, further the process of my transitioning, and to get access to an accountant to sort my hardships. This is my first big step.

My story: I started transitioning in 2016-2017 and stopped late 2018. My life was unsafe and very unstable in Utah. I went through several transphobic attacks, unsafe workplaces and terrible living situations. I had to move often. I leaned into s*x work to get myself out of working 40-70 hour work weeks at 8 dollars an hour. It provided me with opportunities, but came with a cost.

In the last year, I had to move out of my relationship, give up both stream of incomes, and go through frequent therapy to start my transition to being a woman that I have always been. However, I have a severe lack of resources and many medical bills. I am unable to make the next steps in my transition because of where I am now. I currently have been on HRT since 11/2021. I love my changes, but it has been proven with my therapist that my gender dysphoria needs to be treated. I can no longer wait. I have tried to ask for disability help through the government. I have been denied help for college, housing, monthly allowances, etc. All because I was forced to work low wage jobs since 19 years old because my parents did not support my life “choices”.

The funds of 15,000 includes rental assistance (new apartment that is affordable), laser hair removal, injections to feminize face, a lovely unit to present as myself daily, and lastly an accountant to help me get on track with life.

When:

My lease ends in August 1st. I would like to secure funding by beginning of June-July of 2022. This will save me from being displaced and also help me start furthering the process of my transition.
