Can I tell you about my truly remarkable husband?
The last 6 years of his life have entailed the following – a frightening journey through his wife’s thyroid cancer with her subsequent cancer scares and chronic poor health, being laid off from a job he loved after working there 9 years, 8 months of unemployment, a huge pay cut at a new job, foreclosure, caring for his daughter with multiple health issues including a 7 level back fusion at Doernbecher, the loss of 2 dogs and the list goes on.
ANYONE who knows my husband, JR Baker, knows that is he is a man of impeccable character, deeply committed to his family and his God, highly responsible, a loyal friend and a compassionate, funny and wise presence in the lives of hundreds.
One of the VERY few things that JR does for himself is golf. Golfing has kept him sane over these last years of stress and difficulty. He always hoped but never dreamed that he might actually be able to go to St Andrews Golf Course in Scotland – the very birthplace of golf! On our recent trip to California, JR reconnected with one of his best friends from college and this friend has already made the reservations for May 2016 and paid for the green fees. What a gift!
THIS is the once in a lifetime chance to accomplish his bucket list dream! To all of you who know and love this man – and to all who have asked how they could help these last years – THIS is your opportunity to contribute to the happiness of my dear husband. (He may or may not be able to survive a full week without me, but I am willing to take that chance.) We will need this money by March 31, 2016.
