Please help me with our fundraising campaign to provide the George Washington High School Boys Junior Varsity Basketball team with NEW home and away jersey's for this upcoming 2017-2018 season!
The JV Boys basketball team is coached by a Washington High School alumni Ryan Baba.Consider making a donation to support Coach Baba's efforts to inspire our student athletes to succeed on and off the floor.
FROM COACH BABA:
"This year’s GWHS Frosh/Soph team finished their season with the overall record of 8-11. They finished 4th with the record of 5-3 in the CIFSF AAA section later losing to Mission in the playoffs. The most memorable game this season was facing Lowell during the Battle of the Birds at Kezar Pavilion. With two of our top scorers knocked out of the game due to injuries, two unlikely heroes stepped up. One hit a game tying three seconds before regulation sending the game into overtime. Up by one point with five seconds left in OT, our season was saved by a big time defensive play. Knowing the scouting report on a specific player, our six man stepped in and took a charge to give us the ball back to seal the game. This game was one of the most exciting games I have ever been a part of in all my years as a player and a coach.
Something we preached everyday to our players is effort, hard work, teamwork and taking pride in their defense. If they are willing to put in the work, they will see results. We also want our players to understand the importance of their teammates. Everything comes together when all five guys on the court and all ten players on the bench buy-in to one another. The one thing I would want for my players to take away is the wiliness to keep pushing through adversity. We want them to embrace the ups and downs so they can find the resilience to never give up. Being able to face obstacles and adversity are useful tools for them moving forward as a student-athlete as well as an individual".
The Junior Varsity Boys basketball has NEVER (not in the last 20 years) received new uniforms. The JV team is expected to use the old varsity uniforms year after year. Each team must fundraise for new athletic apparel, travel and equipment. Let’s make history by helping these athletes secure brand new uniforms.
We are trying to meet our goal of $4K by December 31, 2017 so the team has enough time to order the uniforms before their upcoming season! I played for the GWHS JV team years ago and just trying to give back. I will be hand delivering a check to the JV team during a home game so they may use the check for new jerseys.
