Gwen's Road to Full Recovery

Donación protegida

Gwen Thomas, an inspiring educator, determined entrepreneur, and engaged activist experienced two life altering strokes in less than one year that turned our world upside down.  Prior to her first stroke, Gwen could be found inspiring professionals to reach their goals during one of her empowering workshops, consulting corporations on professional development strategy, or writing ideas for an upcoming project.

Gwen launched her own company, The C.A.S.T. Company through which she encourages and teaches people to follow their destiny and life’s purpose.  Gwen holds a Masters degree in Education and is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree from Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO). These achievements she models for her grandchildren who are her inspiration.  Gwen loves playing with and nurturing her grandchildren, Kamariah, MJ, and Makari, the children of her only son Mark, who call her "the greatest Gigi in the whole world!"

She loves being part of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. sister. She crossed the burning sands April 13, 1985 at Alabama State University in the Beta Eta Chapter.

Gwen's strokes left her unable to work and in great financial distress.  Her medical bills and living expenses are mounting.  She has lost the full mobility she once enjoyed.  Relying on assistance to get dressed, wheelchairs for transport, and living in an assisted living facility, Gwen is on the long, hard road to full recovery. Therapists and her doctors say she has a good prognosis. UPDATE: She has been able to return home!

Despite these setbacks, Gwen has not lost faith.  She leans on her conviction that with God, all things are possible. (Matt 19:26)  Please join us as we believe together that Gwen will fully recover. Please join us as we lift our sister with prayer, well wishes, and financial support.  While our family is pursuing every available means to support Gwen, there are immediate needs.

You can give in multiple ways:

1)  Donate.  Consider giving a financial gift to support to Gwen’s full recovery.  Gwen’s financial need is as serious as her health condition.  She faces mounting health care costs due to limited access to affordable health care and mounting living expenses while she is unable to work. Every donation (less transaction fees) goes directly to Gwen's medical and living expenses. Your gift will be a direct impact on Gwen's recovery and peace of mind.  Consider giving a one-time or recurring financial gift today by clicking the "Donate" button on this page.

2)  Pray.   Your prayers for Gwen's full recovery are invaluable.  Not for Gwen only, but pray also for the medical professionals who care for her, the administrators who manage her records, and the family and friends who provide daily assistance during her illness.  May everyone's strength be renewed daily and may we all experience a renewed commitment to caring for God's creation.

3)  Write.  We’ve launched a Facebook group entitled “Friends of Gwen Thomas”  where updates on Gwen’s progress are posted and where you can share words of encouragement for Gwen’s long road to recovery.  Gwen is encouraged when she visits that Facebook group and reads the messages from those who care about her full recovery.

4)  Share.  Share this post with your networks via social media.  Forward a link to this page via email and text message.  We believe that your gifts, prayers, and encouragement will inspire Gwen's full recovery.  It will take each of us doing a little extra for someone in need.

Thank you for supporting Gwen's Road to Full Recovery! Her siblings Wayne, Pamela, Debra, Valerie, and her "adopted" brother Roland; her son and grandchildren; and her nieces, nephews, and cousins all thank you for helping us care for our sister.
