Dear Friends and Family,
We are writing you to help us raise money to help bring our beloved Gwen, or Charms as some of you know her, home to NYC.
On the evening of Sunday 18 December 2016, our beloved Gwen suffered a cardiac arrhythmia (her heart was beating irregularly) while on vacation in New Orleans, Louisiana, with her cousin.
The cardiac arrhythmia led to a cardiac arrest and her body was deprived of oxygen for a period of time. Fortunately, she was resuscitated and was rushed to the hospital and has since been receiving intensive care at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.
Gwen has suffered brain damage due to the lack of oxygen supplied to her body during her cardiac arrest. So far what we know is that there are some acute damages to the brain, but it is yet unknown whether those damages are permanent or how it will impact her ability to function as she did prior to the incident.
Additionally, Gwen also suffered some damages to her liver, and has a lung infection (pneumonia) which has left her breathing through a tracheostomy. Since the incident, she has been not been conscious.
However, there have been some positive signs which have given friends and family much hope. Within the last two weeks, Gwen has opened her eyes on various occasions, her pupils have reacted positively to the light tests performed on her; and there has been some light hand movements.
The reason we are appealing for your help and donations is because the family are trying to bring her back home to NYC so she can have better treatments, care, and most of all - be closer to her friends and family.
The financial aid will contribute towards the medical transportation, to a medical facility in NYC, medical bills and anything else that may help Gwen's recovery.
We will be happy to share any information about how the funds raised will be spent, to assure you it is all directed for the medical care of Gwen.
Any little donation can help, please share this post so we can reach our goal as soon as possible and bring our girl home.
