Back in January last year I spotted an advert for a Women Vs Cancer charity cycle event being held in India.. My long-lost passion for travel and adventure was instantly re-ignited and in a moment of madness I signed up! and no- I didn’t even own a bike!

But behind this radical decision, is a scar that runs deep..

In July 2020, one of my best friends died from cancer – way too soon. Joe battled pancreatic cancer for just 6 months and his death hit me hard. We used to spend hours talking about dreams and plans for the future and sadly, so many of them were left unachieved. There were so many unfulfilled dreams – left until it was too late.

So, I promised myself I would live the dreams – and go on the adventures.. And here we go!

On Monday 6th November I will be cycling 360km from Agra to Jaipur, in Rajasthan, India, over 5 days (taking in the majestic Taj Mahal which been on my bucket list for years!) with a group of women all raising money for Womens Cancers. This is a well organised charity event with a full support team and hopefully half decent accommodation! 6 months ago I didn’t even own a bike so its been a pretty gruelling uphill struggle trying to get fit enough for this event.. There has been many challenges since signing up and there were many days I thought I’d never be able to achieve it; Studying, exams, flu for a whole month, working full time, juggling kids and a busy life schedule but here we are.. I’m determined to give it a go! After all, it’s for a great cause.. (I will openly admit I have put an an e-bike on stand-by in case it all gets too much and the cycling nearly kills me)

I think it’s true to say that we all know someone who is battling cancer, and some of whom may never get better from it, so if you can help in anyway at all with making a donation to this worthy cause I will be extremely grateful.

I have self-funded this trip so every single penny raised will go to 3 cancer charities: Breast Cancer Now, Jo’s Cervical Cancer trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

And more than that, I urge everyone of you to Do that thing you have been meaning to do, or putting off, maybe even scared of doing – Just do it! If I can get on a bike and cycle in deepest, darkest India with a bunch of ladies I have never met and try to raise a few pennies for charity, then you really do have it in you step out of your comfort zone and do that thing you’ve always wanted to do! Go for it - and good luck!
