Phil's Fight

Life is unpredictable, with so many twists and turns along the way. Every day brings a new challenge. Some days you need a friend, other days, you need a community.

On this day, we need our community.

After the past several months of testing, procedures and scans to find the source of some recent severe abdominal pain, one of our own, our dear friend Philip Gonzalez, has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer, that has spread to his lymph nodes.

For those that dont know Phil, our friend is a faithful man of God, an active member in The Knights of Columbus, a guy that would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, can bring a smile or laughter to anyone's face, and no stranger to life's challenges.

Having spent most of his adult life traveling the world, pursuing his dream of becoming an opera singer, one of his lifes first big challenges ended that dream in 2017, when he was the victim in a hit and run while walking home one evening in Denver, and spent several weeks undergoing many surgeries and therapy. After overcoming and surviving this obstacle in life, in 2020 he moved back home to Texas to be closer to his only daughter Evie, two beautiful granddaughters, his parents and family, and also welcomed his 1st grandson to the world. But in 2021, another life challenge reared its head, when Phil tragically and unexpectedly lost his daughter Evie.

Since her passing, along with the support of his parents, Rudy & Linda Gonzalez, Phil has had custody and been working hard to gain full guardianship of his oldest granddaughter, Lizzie. Now, approaching the one year anniversary of his daughter's passing, the hard work is paying off and full guardianship is almost final!

But also on this anniversary, life has thrown another unexpected challenge Phil's way. CANCER.

This is why we're asking our community to come together and support our friend, Phillip Gonzalez. HIS FIGHT IS OUR FIGHT!

Phil is currently under the excellent care of Methodist Hospital in Houston. In the coming weeks he will have a PET/CT scan to determine if the cancer has spread beyond his colon and lymph nodes, and will also begin an aggressive 6 month chemo regimen.

While Phil, as expected, is so far handling everything with strength, humor and wit, this wicked disease called Cancer isn't something anyone prepares for.

Our fundraising efforts will go towards easing the out of pocket costs for doctors visits, deductibles, hospital stays, prescriptions, as well as their cost of living and bills.
