Dear Community and Kind Supporters,

In the Fall of 2023, my husband, Amin, and I moved to Canada. I came as an international student, and he joined me as my partner. For more than two years, we both worked hard together to pay for my university tuition and our daily living expenses. Just as we thought the hardest days of immigration were behind us and our lives were finally becoming stable, about two months before our baby’s expected birth, a sudden medical nightmare turned our world upside down.

It all started with what seemed like a routine cold. Tragically, the infection spread from his sinuses directly into his brain, causing a severe seizure in his sleep on June 3rd. He was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. After a one-week effort of antibiotic treatments, doctors discovered that the brain infection did not respond to antibiotics and ultimately required immediate, life-saving brain surgery on June 10th.

While at the hospital, we were devastated to find out that since we do not have provincial health insurance (RAMQ), Amin's private insurance, which was our only hope, does not cover brain surgery or emergency hospital care. Because this was a sudden, life-or-death emergency, the doctors stated that he medically did not have the option or condition to be moved or transferred back to our home country for treatment, leaving us with no choice but to proceed with the emergency surgery.

Fortunately, the surgery went well, and after one week, due to the overwhelming and crushing costs of hospitalization, I strongly insisted on having Amin discharged as soon as possible. He was discharged on June 18th, but his fight is far from over. He must continue heavy daily intravenous antibiotic treatments through an IV PICC line at home, alongside weekly blood tests and CT scans for 6 weeks until late July, which coincides almost exactly with the birth of our child.

We are now left with massive Canadian hospital bills and ongoing care costs. We have absolutely no family or relatives here in Canada to lean on, and I am currently in my 8th month of pregnancy, with our baby arriving next month. Our urgent medical bills and emergency care costs have already gone beyond $100,000. With your kind generosity and support, if we can reduce this financial burden even a little bit, it will give us the strength to get through this immense challenge and rebuild our lives.

جامعه‌ی عزیز و حامیان مهربان

در پاییز سال ۲۰۲۳، من و امین به کانادا مهاجرت کردیم. من به عنوان یک دانشجوی بین‌المللی آمدم و همسرم به عنوان همراه با من آمد. بیش از دو سال است که هر دو نفر سخت کار کردیم تا بتوانیم شهریه دانشگاه من و هزینه‌های زندگی روزمره‌مان را پرداخت کنیم. درست زمانی که فکر می‌کردیم سخت‌ترین روزهای مهاجرت را پشت سر گذاشته‌ایم و زندگی‌مان بالاخره دارد به ثبات می‌رسد، حدود دو ماه مانده به تولد فرزندمان یک کابوس ناگهانی پزشکی دنیای ما را زیر و رو کرد.

همه چیز با چیزی شبیه به یک سرماخوردگی ساده شروع شد. متاسفانه، این عفونت از طریق سینوس‌ها به طرز باورنکردنی به مغز همسرم راه پیدا کرد و باعث شد در ۳ جون در خواب دچار تشنج شدید شود. او در شرایطی حاد به بیمارستان منتقل شد. پس از یک هفته تلاش برای درمان با آنتی‌بیوتیک، پزشکان متوجه شدند که عفونت مغزی به آنتی‌بیوتیک‌ها پاسخ نمی‌دهد و نهایتاً در ۱۰ جون نیاز به جراحی اضطراری و حیاتی مغز پیدا کرد.

در همان بیمارستان بود که متوجه شدیم با توجه به اینکه ما بیمه سلامت استانی (ملدی کارت) نداریم بیمه امین که تمام امیدمان به آن بود پوشش جراحی مغز و موارد اورژانسی بیمارستانی را شامل نمی‌شود. از آنجا که این یک وضعیت اضطراری و مسئله مرگ و زندگی بود، پزشکان گفتند که اصلاً امکان و شرایط جابجایی و انتقال به کشور خودمان را برای درمان ندارد و ما چاره‌ای جز انجام جراحی فوری نداشتیم.

خوشبختانه جراحی با موفقیت انجام شد و بعد از یک هفته امین با اصرار من بخاطر سنگینی هزینه ی درمان در بیمارستان در ۱۸ جون مرخص شد اما باید درمان‌های آنتی‌بیوتیکی سنگین روزانه از طریق خط وریدی (لاین دارویی) و آزمایش خون هفتگی و سی تی اسکن تا ۶ هفته یعنی اواخر جولای که تقریباً همزمان با تولد فرزندمان هست ادامه پیدا کند.

اکنون ما با صورت‌حساب‌های سنگین بیمارستان کانادایی روبرو هستیم. ما هیچ فامیل و خانواده‌ای در کانادا نداریم که بتوانیم به آن‌ها تکیه کنیم و من در حال حاضر در ماه هشتم بارداری هستم و فرزندمان ماه آینده به دنیا خواهد آمد. صورت‌حساب‌های پزشکی و هزینه‌های مراقبت اضطراری ما در حال حاضر فراتر از ۱۰۰ هزار دلار رفته است. با مهربانی و حمایت شما، اگر بتوانیم به کمک هم این بار مالی را حتی کمی کمتر و سبک‌تر کنیم، می‌توانیم از پس این مشکل بزرگ برآییم و دوباره روی پای خود بایستیم.

هر کمک کوچک یا بزرگ یعنی سالم نگه داشتن پدری برای فرزندی که در راه است. اگر می‌توانید کمک کنید یا فقط داستان ما را به اشتراک بگذارید، خانواده ما را در تاریک‌ترین ساعات خود نجات می‌دهید.
