Bright Star students are participating in ARC's after school Students Run LA program which provides youth from underserved communities the opportunity to train and race in the LA Marathon. The program begins in September and goes until March. Students commit to long after school practices, early morning weekend races, and push their bodies to the limits all in the hopes of reaching their goal. 

 Unfortunately, this year our spaces allotted through the program did not meet the number of students who have committed themselves week after week to the team and have done everything we have asked of them.  As a team we felt it was important to provide all of the students who invested time and energy the opportunity to accomplish their goal.  Many of our students on the team this year will be running their first marathon.  Running more than 4 miles is no easy task, let alone the LA Marathon.  Eliminating the financial burden on these students is one less barrier to their success.    

Running and training for a marathon is so much more than exercise or a hobby for our students. It takes discipline, self-regulation, GRIT, and reminds them that they are capable of more than they ever imagined. It inspires hope and encourages them to reach for their goals and reinforces that with hard work and commitment they can accomplish anything. Finishing a marathon gives students the feeling that they can conquer the world and the hope is that these skills will transfer into their daily lives. 


Help us provide all of our students with the opportunity to find their inner strength and finish a Marathon---26.2 miles!!!

Races are extremely expensive and the majority of our families don't have the additional funds to pay for these opportunities. The funds raised will be used to register 10 additional students for the LA Marathon and an 18 Mile training race.
