Guy Goes West: A Sunset Tour

Hey Friends, Family, and strangers alike, this is Isabel, big sister to one awesome Guy. How strange it is to be, here, writing to you. How completely strange.

For those friends who are new, my biggest, little brother, Guy, is… well…dying. Choriocarcinoma has found its forever home within his gangly frame (he’s quick to say that it’s turning his brain to mush) and no amount of dry humor or Antiques Roadshow binges with our parents have managed to keep his disease under control. Through it all, through his unimaginable fight for life, Guy has remained focussed on self discovery. Those closest to my brother will note that Cancer has ignited a rapid metamorphosis within him. From diagnosis in early 2023, to confirmed terminal status a mere week ago, Guy has blossomed into the most stoic, peaceful, and tender hearted version of himself, despite the absolute unknown before him. We are so happy to know this new, old Guy.

The orders from his physicians are to get a move on and live now. With that, he and his personal chauffeurs (named Mom & Dad) are packing up the Prius and heading out on an open ended Sunset Tour of the United States. Guy has a running list of places and people to visit while he can, which include as many national parks, monuments, and long seen friends and family as physically possible. All of the funds gathered here will truly help make this the trip of his lifetime. Your contribution will also give our parents an opportunity to focus on being present. This is most important.

On behalf of my siblings, parents, and especially, Guy, thank you for your unwavering love. While we attempt to come to terms with our past, present, and future, in this wordless chapter of our lives, you have given us something to brace and a soft place to land.
