Gustavo Abreu Bracho was born April 27, 1957 and passed June 17, 2022. He was a father, uncle, grandfather, brother, worker and mischief making warrior. He was born In Mexico, raised first in Mexico City and came to Los Angeles with his parents, the late Humberto and Martha, in 1970. He was the oldest of five, his siblings are Claudia, Francisco, Ricardo and Beto. He attended Venice High School and, for a short time, UCLA. He loved playing soccer and the arts, especially ceramics. He was a lifelong communist and was on the front line of anti-racist struggles and immigrant-worker organizing. He worked for decades for the phone company, Pacific Bell, first as an Operator and later as a Line Repairman, and was a proud union rep. He met and married the love of his life, Martha Torres, at age 19 and was with her until her untimely death three years ago. They had four children, the late Carlos, Monique, Stephanie and Ceci. He also helped raise his late nephew, Alberto. Marvin Cortes and Ernie Hernandez are his son-in-law’s. His grandchildren are Alondra, Marvin, Jonathan, Layla, Abraham, Jacob, Joshua and Darla. The last four he and his wife Martha were raising as their own. He passed due to organ failure brought on by heart disease and diabetes. That is to say, racism and heartbreak. He had a beautiful if difficult life. He is missed and remembered with great love.
We, the brothers, sister, daughters, son-in-law’s, nieces and grandchildren of Gustavo Abreu Bracho are seeking your care and generosity to fund both his memorial service and the continued growing and thriving of four of his grandchildren, all under the age of 10, that he and his late wife, Martha, were raising. His eldest daughter Monique and her husband Ernie and their daughter Alondra and now raising the 3 boys and 1 girl, as well as settling up Gus’s finances and home. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated and go towards his beloveds Abraham, Jacob, Joshua and Darla.
In his memory,
Monique, Ernie, Alondra, Stephanie, Marvin, Claudia, Fiona, Bianca, Beto, Francisco & Ricardo
