Gus the life saving telephone box

Once Gus had lots of visitors who would step inside him to keep in touch with their families and friends. So many conversations, some happy, some sad and even some secrets might be heard, but he never told what he heard. Then, one day the worst possible thing happened, a BT man came along and removed his telephone and Gus was all alone.

Across the country old telephone boxes are being turned into libraries, plant and seed swaps, mini museums or art galleries, some amazing projects.

But what if Gus could become a life saver? What if he became somewhere to house a defibrillator.

Up to 100,000 people in the UK suffer from an “out of hospital” sudden cardiac arrest making it one of the UK’s largest killers. The faster a victim gets medical help, the better the chances of survival. With CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) alone, the survival rate is around 5%, but if a defibrillator is available and used in conjunction with CPR the chances of survival for a cardiac arrest victim rise to more than 50%.

So the decision has been made to carry out the final restoration of Gus the redundant “K6” red BT Telephone box and to install a life saving Defibrillator. We may need a little for the telephone box should any issues arise.

We need our community to help though. We have a couple donations towards a defibrillator, however we do need more money to purchase one. Currently we have Councillor Jamie Curley £600 and Tony Simpson £300. A defibrillator is around £1000+ and we would like to fundraise the rest in several ways.

We feel this would a great use for Gus and the community benefits are immeasurable. Thank you in anticipation of you help.
