Gus Needs Our Help: Union Organizer Fired

On March 14th, Gus Mason, our beloved co-worker, lead organizer, and acting shop steward, was illegally targeted and fired from his job at Movement Crystal City as a result of his union organizing.

We know this is illegal anti-union retaliation. Gym Director Nick Gava was overheard on a Zoom call last July saying he had “a plan to get rid of Gus,” and that they would be satisfied even if they had to pay a settlement like the last time they illegally fired a union organizing team member.

The gym claims they are firing him for excessive tardiness. Gus has only been tardy TWICE in 8 months (since July 2024) once in November and again from heavy traffic/road closures on the evening of the March 4th State of the Union address. In March, he was late by only 5 minutes, and called in advance to let the team know.

Gus has been supporting climbing gym unions and gym workers across the US for the last three years. Now it's time to give him some extra support.

He is still working part-time as an organizer, but we'd love for him not to have to worry about rent for the next 3 months. Can you help us reach our 3k goal for fundraising?
