Gus needs a bionic knee!!
Donation protected
Gus is my 7 year old German Shepherd. He's been a wonderfully spoiled house dog! Recently, after a slip and fall in the house, I noticed a limp in his left leg and that he was hesitant to jump on the bed or couch. I took him to the vet expecting a bruised foot, or maybe even a broken toe. The diagnosis was something that I hadn't expected.
X-Rays showed a ruptured CCL (cranial cruciate ligament). This is the equivalent to a human tearing their ACL. While there are several surgery options for this injury, only the most expensive one is recommended for dogs of his weight and activity level. TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery is the option that provides the best chance of restoring him to a full, active lifestyle.
TPLO involves inserting plates and screws into the joint to restore stability. Following the expensive surgery, he will need 8 weeks of recovery time including physical therapy. This is an expense I just couldn't foresee.
Gus' surgery is scheduled for January 12th, 2021. I'll need to travel to Knoxville, TN as there are no local vets that will do the surgery on large dogs. Any assistance to help prevent me from going into great debt in order to restore his quality of life, and to restore use of his leg is greatly appreciated.
