Hello everyone,

I'm Hayley, the youngest daughter of Cindy and James "Gus" Filegar. As some of you know, my dad has been struggling with heart problems over the past few years, including cardiac arrest, a leaky heart valve, and most recently, a heart attack in March of 2023. After being in and out of the hospital throughout March and April, he was recently transferred from UPMC Altoona to UPMC Presbyterian to be evaluated for a heart transplant or an LVAD, a left ventricle assist device. My dad loves bowling, cookouts, and spending time with his family, but his health has made it difficult for him to enjoy these things in the recent past.

On April 18th, dad's medical team decided that it would be best to implant an LVAD. The surgery should be scheduled soon, and there is a lot of information to digest in the meantime.

My dad's medical journey has already been a long and challenging one, and the costs of the upcoming travel, lodging, food, and medications will be overwhelming. My mom is still working, but taking off work has been and will continue to be burdensome, leaving them in a financial bind. That's why we're turning to you for help.
