Gus’ journey to recovery

Hi everyone, my dad, Gus, was in a very severe motorcycle accident on July 10th, on 35w and highway 10. (Yes, right where all of that road work is). He is in the ICU at HCMC in a medically induced coma at the moment and will most likely be here in the icu for a week and then step down to the surgical, trauma neuro ward. I am not going to sugar coat this by any means. He continues to be in critical condition.

Gus has 2 major brain bleeds and “a lot of small brain bleeds” according to the neuro surgeon. He also has a broken skull at the back lower occipital lobe. This is where it gets tricky. Behind the skull fracture is one of the brain bleeds. It is the biggest one and it has formed a clot. They have done one procedure in the cath lab to remove the clot and got most of the clot.

Thank you everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers. Keep them coming we have a long way to go. I will give another update in the morning and in the evening tomorrow.

I also want to say because I know that I am going to get this question. No. He did not have a helmet. Wearing a helmet is a personal choice. We all know what the the potential outcome could be when we don’t wear a helmet.
