Gus' Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hello Friends,
Let me start off by saying I am not normally someone who asks for help, and never did I think I would be looking for charitable donations, but recent events have left me with my hands tied.

Four years ago, I got my best puppy friend, Gus. Knowing Golden Retrievers, I was well aware that cancer would likely be an issue later in his life, but I would never have guessed that it would challenge my poor boy when he was only 4 years old.

A year ago I noticed a lump on Gus' chin. I immediately took him in for a needle test, and was told that it was nothing...to watch it, but that it was likely a fatty deposit. One year later, and our new vet suggested that we get it removed. It looked threatening and was starting to make Gus uncomfortable. So, we had it removed...expecting that to be the last of it, but then we got the worst call we could have expected.

Gus' tumor is a Grade II Mass Cell Tumor, that is highly aggressive. We were advised to go to an Oncologist immediately.

By the next day we were in the Oncologist's office, for tests of three other lumps and an analysis of the previously operated site...

After $700 dollars of testing, we found out that it has not spread beyond Gus' jaw, but he is in need of surgery quickly to contain the remaining cells before they enter vital organs.

This is where things get hard....I have pet insurance through Gus' vet, but they do not have an Oncology department. That means all tests, and further surgery will be out of pocket and now constitute "pre-existing conditions". That means, I can no longer get insurance assistance.

The next surgery is estimated for $5,000 dollars. We are alreay $950 dollars in from the tests and lump removal. We can absorb some of the costs, but $5,000 is completely out of our ability, and we have been told that it needs to happen within the next two weeks (Bill has been included). I cannot imagine not treating him, as he is only 4, but unfortunately, it will have to go untreated if we cannot find the funds.

I had hoped that I would have time to put this kind of money away for potential future treatments for Gus as he moved towards his old age, but I guess his life challenges aren't running with the same timeline. Any help you can provide for my little man is so appreciated.

I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and interest in my little man. He and I both hope to have a few more years of adventure together. If you have ever met him...you know just how much joy and love he brings to everyone around him.

Thank you for your time. We love you so much!,
