Hi, my name is Leslie, and this is my dog, Gus.

Once upon a time, in a land not far from here, my adorable, spunky, and very chill Gus came upon some interesting new snacks in the bathroom trash can. When I discovered his discovery, I thought he had merely played with them -- weird, I thought, but okay! we don't judge... -- but alas, unfortunately, he had eaten one as a tasty treat. We didn't realize his blunder until several days later, after a few vet visits when he wasn't pooping or eating.

He is currently undergoing emergency surgery to have it removed, which requires a specialist surgeon, anesthesia, medication, and time in the intensive care unit at our local animal hospital. The estimated cost is around $9,000 - $11,000, barring any further complications. His bill for the X-rays etc were around $1,700 and that does not account for the surgery or subsequent medications. I typically feel very financially responsible, and couldn't imagine being in this situation, but here we are. Not only do I feel responsible for his discomfort, but outside of this bizarre incident, he has a really lovely life and spirit. He goes with me often to my office and hangs out with my friends. He is a cuddlebug to anyone who wants to pay their dues in scratches. He is, simply put, a very good boy.

There is part of me that considered not committing to spending this money, and I totally understand if you think it's crazy and wouldn't do it yourself. All I ask is that if you would ever consider giving me a birthday present (it's next week, after all...) or taking me out for a drink, please donate a few dollars here instead. He truly means the world to me and has gotten me out of bed on many mornings when I would rather not. It's only fair that I try to do the same for him.
