My beautiful sister Gena Anderson (38 years old) has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Ampullary Neuroendocrine Cancer. This is a very rare tumor which has grown in her small bowel and invaded her bile duct and pancreas and surrounding lymph nodes. The course of treatment includes a few more specific scans to determine if there is any additional spread of the cancer, then several weeks of chemotherapy before the ultimate goal of surgery.
The surgical procedure for this type of tumor is a very complex tumor resection involving the small bowel, gall bladder and pancreas as well as surrounding lymph nodes and other tissue as needed (Whipple procedure).
Gena is not one to ask for help, and is fiercely independent (some might say epically stubborn....) but she is at the beginning of a long difficult battle and could use some support. I am hoping to raise funds for her recent and upcoming medical treatment, as well as her monthly expenses, as she will be missing a significant amount of work and will have a long recovery after the surgical procedure.
Gena is an amazing sister and one of the most dedicated Aunts in the world. She is always coming over to help with the kiddos, and was even in the delivery room to support me with the births of all of my children! Now it is my turn to support her, please consider helping.
I know it would mean a great deal to her and our family if we could lift some of the financial burden off of her shoulders during this time. We are also asking for prayers, good thoughts, well wishes, and any other form of positive energy you can send our way!
