My name is Jodi and I’m one of the administrators of Missing Pets in the Northland.
On Sunday, September 7th, we were contacted by someone who found a lab hunkered down in the bushes by their house.
He was wet, cold, and VERY lethargic. He was brought into a heated garage where he was warmed up and offered food and water. He refused to eat or drink and began vomiting and having bloody diarrhea hours after he was found.
I scooped him up and met my boss and coworker at my vet clinic. We immediately started working on bloodwork and x-rays to figure out why he was so lethargic.
Bloodwork revealed he was extremely dehydrated and also had an active infection of Lyme disease. His x-rays, luckily, were normal and showed no signs of being hit by a car.
We immediately bolused in 1 liter of fluid. He was still extremely lethargic after a liter of fluids. I took him home to my house where I continued his IV fluids overnight. He received IV fluids for almost 2 days before his potassium normalized and he could be done with fluids.
Fast forward 5 days & he’s feeling SOOOO much better!! He’s got his energy & his appetite back!!
He will be on medications for a few more weeks to treat his stomach ulcer and Lyme disease.
In the next few weeks, he will still need to be vaccinated and neutered.
Gunner’s owner surrendered him to us as he was really having a hard time keeping him safely secured in his yard.
You may have seen Gunner multiple times over the past few months running all over Cloquet. I’m just so happy he was never hit by a car.
Here’s to new beginnings for Gunner!
He’s the sweetest boy who has a second chance at having an amazing new life!
Donations received will go towards his emergency vet care, his multiple medications, vaccines & neutering costs.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
