Hi everyone,
My name is Angel, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my beloved 5-year-old German Shepherd, Gunner. He recently went through a terrifying and unexpected medical emergency. Gunner had to undergo life-saving emergency surgery for GDV (gastric dilatation-volvulus)—a dangerous condition where the stomach twists and fills with gas, cutting off blood flow. It can be fatal within hours if not treated immediately.
GDV is especially common in large, deep-chested breeds like German Shepherds, making dogs like Gunner more vulnerable even with no prior warning signs. We were devastated when it happened so suddenly.
During surgery, the vets also discovered an autoimmune issue affecting his rectum, which needed urgent treatment. Because of this complication, they also had to neuter him for his long-term health and healing.
Gunner has always been more than just a dog he’s our family member, our protector and the heart of our family. Gunner lives on the farm and doesn’t interact with other dogs, I had originally chosen not to neuter him so he could live naturally. But when it came to saving his life, I had to make the hard but necessary decision.
The vet bills from this emergency surgery and his follow-up care are much more than I can handle on my own. That’s why I’m asking for help from friends, family, and anyone who knows how deeply these animals become part of our families. Every donation will go directly toward Gunner’s surgery, medications, and recovery.
At only five years old, Gunner still has so much love and life ahead of him. With your help, I’m hopeful he’ll be back soon, chasing squirrels, patrolling the fields, and being the goofy, loyal boy I know and love.
Thank you for reading and for any support you can offer.
With gratitude,
Angel & Gunner & Family
