Gulf War Vet in need of funding for Service Dog

Donation protected
My funding recently fell through for obtaining a service dog (PONCHO) and am in an emergency situation to get $5000 of funding in the next week. I have been working with PONCHO for 4.5 weeks now, and we have an incredible bond.

My name is Greg and I am currently sitting at Warrior's Heart Treatment Center for treatment to help with my issues of Complex PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression. I served in the Navy from 1990-1998 as a Combat Engineer. I sustained injuries, but upon my honorable discharge from military service I turned down a disability rating due to not feeling worthy compared to others who paid a higher price.

Over the years my symptoms and issues worsened and I accepted I needed more focused help with my issues. Warrior's Heart has helped me tremendously with counseling and coping skills for my mental health and emotional issues. Part of the therapy has be my involvement with their K-9 program. The $5000 request is to cover the training costs to qualify PONCHO as a service dog, supplies, equipment, and food over the past 42-days while I've been getting help. Here is a breakdown of how the $5000 will be spent:
  • $3,600 - 120 hours of training for Certification as a Service Dog
  • $ 400 - Neuter
  • $ 175 - Vet Exam and initial vaccinations
  • $ 250 - Heartworm, Proheart, Flea/Tick
  • $ 200 - Training Supplies (Treats and Treat pouch, Positive reinforcement clicker)
  • $ 170 - Waste disposal bags, cleaning supplies, facilities maintenance
  • $ 55 - Microchip implant and registration
  • $ 100 - Dog food
  • $ 50 - Leash, Prong and Flat Collars

I am also an insulin dependent Type 1 diabetic for the past 5 years and have noticed that my blood sugars have been better managed since working with PONCHO. He can sense when my blood sugars are abnormal and can prevent me from falling into a potentially fatal Diabetic Keto-acidosis (DKA). I am leaving the facility in 10 days. Any donations will help! I have been a long-time dog owner with 2 previous dogs over the past 30 years. PONCHO was originally picked up as a stray on the streets of San Antonio. Please help to make sure PONCHO comes home with me. Thank you!
