Serenity Strong : You dont know how strong you are until strong is your only choice. Serenity Carpenter is only 10 years young and has been overcoming mountains.
Born a month pre-mature she came into the world fighting for her chance at life. Born into a family whose mother was losing a battle with drug addiction after 2 brain surgeries. Serenity was looked after by her 8 yr old brother and 12 year old sister.
Once authorities were notified of what was happening in her home, she was removed from her home and taken from her siblings (who had different fathers), and placed in the care of her grandmother. The courts ultimately also took her away from her grandmother due to her grandmother having crippling multiple sclerosis.
When her aunts were notified that she was taken away from her grandmother both stepped up ready to fight for their niece. She is now living with her very loving family; her mom and dad Jordan and Michael Carpenter and their three children Dayton, Bentley, Haddie. And together they have had to fight a never ending battle with illnesses overcoming Serenity.
Hundreds of trips to emergency rooms, hospitals, and Doctor visits. Some trips so severe Serenity had to be immediately flown to the largest hospital in her area. She has also had to take trips to specialty hospitals in other states trying to find help/answers. All the medications through the years has helped her, but they are also hurting her young body.
For years Serenity has been fighting an uphill battle full of medication, back braces, and wheelchairs. Her parents have had to completely rearrange their lives. Loosing jobs, switching jobs, loosing countless hours at work. At one point they had to drive 9 hours (roundtrip) for therapy twice a week - plus the time for the transfusions. Not only loosing time at work but also only having one parent to take care of their other children so often.
Thankfully their small town community has tried their best to support them through their struggles, but their struggles are continuing.
Serenity has now been in the hospital for 1 month and 2 days straight. She has been receiving high doses of chemotherapy in order to wipe out her system and transplant in healthy bone marrow. She has lost all her hair but not her beautiful smile.
Unfortunately, Serenity's family came in contact with COVID during this process and had to call in an alternate caretaker, her Aunt from out of state. Currently things are going well with the transplant, but even so, they still have a long road ahead. The hospital said if things continue well she will be released from the hospital in approximately 2 weeks.
However, this does not mean she gets to go home. For THREE months after this procedure Serenity has to stay within an hour of the hospital; Her family lives 4 hours away. This means they will have to rent a hotel room or an apartment near by for the next 3 months. Before the COVID run in, they had a rotating schedule of mom for a week, dad for a week, and then grandma for a week. This is the schedule they will be going back on soon. Constantly missing their other children, constantly loosing work, not having their whole family together at any time.
This has been extremely financially and emotionally taxing for her family. This go fund me has been set up to try and relieve some of their financial burden.
Please help if you can, even if that means you can only share the link.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. We appreciate you.
