Hi, I’m Tom. I’m the father of two children who go to Godwin Junior School here in Forest Gate, East London.
A little while ago, the headteacher asked me to take a look at some of the guitars the school was having problems with. What I found was the guitars were really poor quality, and many had warped necks, which made them impossible to play.
That inspired me to start the Guitars for Godwin project. The aim is simple: raise the funds needed to replace every guitar at Godwin with better, playable instruments.
As a guitarist myself, I know how much joy and confidence learning the instrument can bring. But if a guitar is hard to play—or even unplayable—it makes learning frustrating and can put children off music altogether.
To replace all 30 guitars, I’m aiming to raise £5,000. That will cover the cost of the new instruments, with a little left over for soft cases and spare strings etc.
Thank you for considering to support this project. With your help, we can replace these poor quality instruments and give the kids the best possible chance to learn the guitar.
