Guillermo Alba passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019, at the age of 29. He will be best remembered as the trusted friend who was always there to listen and support; the best brother and sidekick anyone could have by their side. Yet, Alba held tight to his own thoughts and feelings. Behind his smiles was a formidable struggle with depression. He had so many loved ones around him, but he felt alone.
Suicide has become the leading cause of military deaths. It is an estimated 22 deaths per day.
We all have so many great memories of camaraderie with him, filled with jokes and laughter. Alba always shared his love for Mexico and his favorite soccer team, Club America. His family is still grieving and coping with this tragic loss. His career in the United States Navy serving 11 years of service has created a second family of friends from all over the world who has felt his passing. Many of whom have asked how they can help support him and his family at this time. In response, a GoFundMe account has been created. Please know that funeral arrangements are taken care of by the VA.
Guillermo Alba leaves behind the mother of child, Amanda, his 18-month-old son, Santiago, his mother Zorayda, brother Andres, and sister Sarai.
Rest in peace, Shipmate.
Fair winds and following seas!
