Who is this for?
This gofundme account is being set up for Lisa Roby of Rockwell City, Iowa.
Who I am
My name is Renee Hoyt. For over forty years, the Hoyts and Robys have been friends. When I married a Hoyt almost forty years ago, the Roby family was part of our special day. Bob was a groomsman, Vicki was a bridesmaid and Bob's sister, Lisa, sat at our guestbook. She was 14 years old.

Lisa attending the guest book at our wedding on May 29, 1976.
Lisa's Story
On November 8, 2015, Lisa Roby went to the Emergency Room in Pocahontas, Iowa. She thought she had the flu. Lisa is an R.N. at the Pocahontas Hospital. Within hours, Lisa was on her way to Mayo Clinic where she was diagnosed with adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML is a rare form of leukemia. This type of cancer worsens quickly if not treated.
Lisa has been undergoing chemo at Mayo and was thought to be in remission, however, further testing showed leukemic cells in her spinal fluid and she is back on chemo. Once she is deemed in remission, she will begin preparation for a stem cell transplant. Lisa has three brothers - Bob, Mike and Steve. All three were tested to see if one would be a match. Mike was a match. He will travel to Mayo in the near future where the transplant will take place.
Why I set up this account
Lisa is an RN at the hospital in Pocahontas, IA. She has had to use her personal time off (PTO) for her hospitalization time at Mayo. By the end of January she will be out of PTO. She will also no longer have income from her job which also means she will no longer be covered by her health insurance policy provided by her employer. Lisa can continue her insurance via COBRA which is expensive. Mayo has told Lisa she will not have a stem cell transplant if she is not covered by insurance. It is imperative that she is able to continue her health insurance coverage. Her family has stated they will pay her premiums if that's what it takes for her to have the transplant.
Lisa will no longer be employed as of the end of January and will have no income whatsoever. Lisa is not married and she supports herself. She has two children. Logan is a young dad with two small boys. Her daugher, Aspen, is a young mom with two children, a boy and a girl.

Monthly expenses will soon be building up for Lisa once her paychecks stop coming. She has been at Mayo since November 8 - almost two months. There is no definite end in sight to her hospitalization.
Once Lisa has her transplant, she will be in a transplant house where she will stay for 100 days.
How will your donation be used?
Any funds raised will be used for Lisa to pay her monthly expenses at home, pay for her monthly insurance premium, and out-of-pocket medical expenses. Lisa plans to file for disability but the approval rate in Iowa on the first application is only 32%. Until she can qualify and be approved for disability, she will need funds to live on and pay her bills. Even after approval for disability, her expenses will far outweigh any income she might get from disability. She will have massive medical expenses in the future.
Why this means so much to me
If you're a Roby, you're family to us. As a mom, I can't imagine my daughter being put into a situation like this. I want Lisa to be there for Logan and Aspen for a long time. As a grandma, I want Lisa to be there for her grandchildren. As a friend, I know the Robys would do the same for us if the situation were reversed.
I thank you in advance for anything you can donate. I know Lisa will be humbled and thankful beyond words.
