On April 26th, our community suffered a heartbreaking loss when Mr. Hector Guerra’s home was destroyed by a fire. While we are incredibly grateful that Mr. Guerra and his family are safe, they have lost everything—from clothes and daily essentials to years of personal mementos.

On that dreadful night, Hector was tasked with evacuating not just his wife and infant son, but also his dear mother, Ofelia Guerra (75yo) from her home.

Mrs. Guerra, a widow and lifelong public servant in the community of Hidalgo was awakened by her son, Hector Guerra, in the middle of the night as both their homes were engulfed in flames.

Losing a home to a fire is an incredibly heavy burden, especially for someone who spends their days pouring into the lives of others. The feeling of displacement is something that can’t be put into words, yet their faith will guide them.

Mr. Guerra and his family have spent the majority of their lives dedicated to the students in the Hidalgo Independent School District and the community, always going above and beyond to make sure every child feels seen and supported. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them!
