We are a group of kids from Collier County Florida who love robots and research. This year, we came together to form a First Lego League (FLL) community based team. The FLL competition covers 3 major categories: Core Values, Project, and Robot.  We successfully passed through the FLL Qualifiers round and were invited to participate in the “West Florida Regionals” competing against 39 other teams.  Even though we were a rookie team, learning as we go, we were able to design and build a robot that earned the most points and received 1st place for robot performance and robot design. 

This year’s theme is Into Orbit.  We had to identify and solve a problem faced by astronauts on long term duration flights.  The issue we focused on was about the stress and isolation of astronauts during missions.  Through our extensive research we have concluded that growing and touching grass in space can mentally and physiologically benefit astronauts. Our in-depth research and on-going experiments led us to conclude that grass can and should grow in space! Our teamwork and perseverance resulted in two more awards: project research, and gracious professionalism.

We have put “Into Orbit” many hours of work.  We grew through this competition, and we have enjoyed sharing Core Values with our friends and community.  The hard work and determination finally paid off as we were invited to the FLL Razorback Open Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  It is an absolute privilege to be one of the 72 teams from around the world invited to this competition.
