Guatemala Relief Volcano
Donation protected
On June 3, 2016, Guatemala declared a state of emergency in communities surrounding el Fuego volcano after massive explosion. To date, 65 people are dead - a figure which is expected to rise, 46 people have been injured, 3,271 have been evacuated, 1,916 are living in shelters, and over 1.7 million people have been effected.
Thousands of Guatemalans are in desperate need of basic foods and supplies such as beans, salt, rice, fortified foods, canned soups, cooking oils, cleaning and hygiene kits, and toiletries. In a country where chronic malnutrition is already causing stunting (irreversible growth damage) in more than half of the child population under five, such a catastrophic event is intensifying the vulnerability of these populations. Such a devastatingly traumatic disaster is exacerbating food insecurity, poor health, and economic livelihoods for thousands of families, and a small donation contributing to basic needs and supplies can make a tremendous difference.
All donations will be used to purchase basic food and cleaning supplies, and will be donated to CONRED - the National Coordinating Agency for the Reduction of Natural Disasters.
