Guardian Arsenal
For those of you who don’t know him, I want to introduce you to Adam.
Adam has been one of my best friends since junior high, he is a Husband, Dad, son, brother, friend, service member, veteran, and so many more things.
He and his family have had a lot going on lately...Like me, he is the father to seriously pre-mature twins and also like me, he is a small business owner. But, unlike me, one of his little men has continued to have some pretty significant medical needs and a couple of weeks ago had to have spinal fusion surgery at the age of 7. He made it through very well and while he does have a lot of healing to do, along with wearing a pretty crazy looking halo device for the next few months, he is on a good path.
Unfortunately, this week, just as things were starting to get back to normal, Adam’s shop for his business burned to the ground. Thankfully, no one was hurt and only property was damaged. But I’m terms of property, it was a total loss. Now he does have insurance, but it only covers about half of what he needs to get rebuilt to even a minimum level for day to day operations.
Adam has spent the last several years becoming a very skilled gun smith and high end firearms manufacturer. Like most small business owners he and his wife have sunken almost everything they had into getting his business off the ground...in the fire he lost all of his tools, including his mill, his lathe, drill press, saws, his cerakote booth and equipment, and all of his hand tools. Along with the tools, he had about $5,000 in client property that was in the shop for repair or upgrade, and about $25,000 in pre-built inventory for sales that were all lost as well.
To make it worse, one of his personal vehicles, a bit of a family heirloom, was parked in the shop at the time of the fire and was completely destroyed. Due to the vehicles current stats, it was not able to have automobile insurance and as a result, it is not covered.
As a business owner myself, I can only imagine how devastating it would be to lose my shop and all of our equipment...but to realize the cost of the equipment and inventory purchased over the past few years is roughly 130% of the max policy coverage and the insurance payout only covers about half of what is needed to get back up and running is a tough pill to swallow.
So here is what I’m hoping for...let’s see if we can raise the other half to keep his dream alive. He has worked so hard for this and really loves his work.
thanks everyone!
