Since I was 16, I’ve dreamed of bringing this story to life—a one-woman show set in a boxing ring, where comedy meets raw truth and physical theatre drives a heartfelt story.
Story
Lena doesn’t fit into anyone’s box—not as a girl, not as an athlete, not as a person. She’s beautiful by society’s standards, but she doesn’t play by their rules. She’s strong, aggressive and navigating life with sharp wit and an unapologetic love for all things bold and taboo. But while Lena is busy having fun and making her own rules, society has other plans. She’s constantly told to shrink, soften, and behave. When the world starts to push back—sexualizing her, underestimating her, and trying to fit her into a mold—she’s caught off guard. The realization that life isn’t as fair or fun as she thought hits hard, and for the first time, she’s forced to fight in a way she never expected.
This bold and urgent play explores toxic masculinity from a female perspective, the bias against underprivileged youth, and the invisibility of working-class struggles in modern Britain. Lena's impersonations and humour capture the most awkward, uncomfortable moments—exposing both the comedy and the pain in her story. Her voice drives Guard Up, an unfiltered look at the duality of womanhood—the tension between owning your sexuality and the need to protect it with grit, wit, and raw honesty.
Guard Up is a story about fighting back. Not just in the ring, but against every force that tries to shrink you. It’s a tribute to the girls who refuse to be silenced, to the mothers who keep going, and to the voices rising from the cracks of a broken system.

Why Your Support Matters:
Guard Up is a celebration of strength, laughter, and the messy, beautiful journey of growing up.
With your support, the essential foundations needed for the show will be secured, covering both its creation and marketing. Guard Up will reach audiences who are often overlooked in traditional theatre spaces: young people who feel misjudged within the school system, sports enthusiasts who rarely see themselves represented, and teachers and adults who are rarely part of conversations about teenage growth. The aim is to help bridge the gap between young people and adults, offering insight into how to better support the next generation.
