UPDATE 04/07/21: We just got word of an upcoming flight on APRIL 24th which we will now be booking pups and dogs for! We have increased the fundraising cap to $10,000. ALL funds raised will go directly to flying dogs over. Contact us if you are interested in sponsoring a specific puppy for their freedom flight.
The US Territory island of Guam is COMPLETELY overwhelmed with stray dogs and puppies. We have almost no adopters left on island and need help flying these puppies and dogs to new homes and rescues/shelters on the mainland! What started started as 4 puppies quickly grew into 25 dogs and pups who will be flying to the mainland US on April 10th. From Alaska to Texas, Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Seattle, and Indiana.. our boonie dogs are going to have wonderful lives stateside! We are so excited. THANK YOU for your support in meeting our fundraising goal to help save these boonies!
NOTE: We are NOT BREEDERS. We literally find these dogs on the side of the road, dumped in trash bags, dumped out of moving cars, in boxes in the jungle, in DUMPSTERS, we even found a puppy next to two trash bags FULL of dead puppies! Our hearts are broken every day. The flights are expensive because NO airline flies pets from Guam to Hawaii, so they go on a chartered pet flight. We actually LOSE money each puppy that goes - we fundraise or pay out of our own pockets to pay their vet bills, vaccines, get their health certificate, crate, and any extra over the flight cost. We just have NO homes for these puppies on Guam, and we need to give them a chance at life. There are so many dogs here, especially lately we are finding puppies nonstop.
ABOUT THE DOGS
Boonie Dogs are the Guam stray dog. They descend from dogs brought over by Spain hundreds of years ago mixed with dogs brought over during WWII, greyhounds from an old racetrack, and other family dogs along the way. The result is a medium sized dog (often 30lbs) with goofy ears and a huge heart. They are extremely loyal, intelligent, and basically indestructible from years of natural selection on the harsh streets of Guam.
ABOUT GUAM
Guam is a U.S. Territory Island in the Pacific, close to Japan and the Philippines. It is a beautiful place with wonderfully kind people. Unfortunately, our island is home to 60,000 dogs and many of these are stray or free-roaming. With only around 160,000 human residents, there are simply not enough homes. The sad fact is that many puppies die on the streets young or live very difficult lives on the streets facing illness, heat, mange, and surviving on trash for nutrition. Guam is working on a more sustainable solution to dog population control, but there is no EASY solution and this will take many years.
WHY SO EXPENSIVE
The only airline connecting Guam to the mainland U.S. strictly through non-international flights is United Airlines. Unfortunately, United Airlines discontinued their pet program. The only way to get dogs off island is through a chartered flight from Guam to Hawaii. These are rare and expensive. After landing in Hawaii, the dogs stay overnight in a kennel before boarding their next flight to the mainland. This second half of their journey is much more affordable. The average flight is a bit over $3,000 per crate. Our flights are booked through the amazing Lisa Meador, an animal travel agent.
WHO ARE WE
HEARTGuam (Happily Ever After Rescue Team) is a 501c3 animal welfare organization on Guam. HEART coordinates the flights and off-island adoptions. All funds donated to flying puppies off Guam will be received through HEART and are tax-deductible.
