We are reaching out to family, friends, and the community for support in this incredibly difficult time. We are creating this page to raise funds to help cover the overwhelming medical expenses for my son, Eduardo Romero Delgado.
Eduardo, my child, is a freshman in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at NIA at Hampshire High School. On October 29, 2024, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). ALL is a rapidly progressing cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, causing the production of too many immature white blood cells called lymphocytes. It’s the most common type of cancer in children, and it advances swiftly, making early diagnosis critical.
This diagnosis has shattered us emotionally and financially. As a single mother, I have always tried to juggle work and school while ensuring Eduardo had the support he needed, but now I can't return to work because he requires weekly chemotherapy and constant care. His well being is my only priority, and I am doing everything in my power to be there for him.
Eduardo was hospitalized for six days at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where his diagnosis was confirmed, and he received his first round of chemotherapy. His doctors say he will need two years of treatment, which means weekly trips to Lurie’s in Chicago for chemo. Just last week, I thought I might lose my son as he suddenly stopped breathing. Thankfully, 911 responded quickly, and he was stabilized, but I cannot shake the fear that lingers every day.
Eduardo has faced countless challenges since birth. Diagnosed as profoundly deaf in both ears, he has been in and out of hospitals his entire life, undergoing four surgeries and countless therapies. And now, to face leukemia on top of everything else it feels like we are reaching the edge of what we can endure.
We are asking for any assistance that can help us cover rent, bills, and the cost of travel and living expenses that continue to pile up as we focus on Eduardo's treatment. This need will be ongoing as we fight for Eduardo’s health and try to get him through the next two years. Above all, our focus is on ensuring Eduardo can make it to his treatments and, hopefully, beat this devastating illness. We thank you deeply for any support you can give in helping us get through this heartbreaking journey.
