Send kids to Grambling's Band Camp!

Greetings!

I desperately need your help! I am attempting to raise funds for young people who simply want an opportunity to improve their lives.  I am convinced that music is one way to enhance students' academic and social skills. Despite being in schools and communities that are suffering, music has helped students transcend. Bob Marley said, "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain."

Has music given you that feeling? I can tell you that music has had a drastic impact on my life! No, I never mastered playing the piano. However, many of my family members are gifted singers and musicians. From singing and strumming on our grandparents' porch to performing across the country, music is the tie that binds our family.

I know that many of you have had similar experiences with singing gospel, dancing to R&B, or rapping to hip hop. While enrolled at Grambling State University, I gained an appreciation for jazz and attended my first reggae concert. It was tigerrific! I met some interesting people, made some lifelong friends, and shared the moment with many students from LA Tech University!

After graduating from GSU, I became an educator and developed an appreciation for other genres. I also shared my love of music with my students. For more than 20 years, I have seen how students' lives have changed because of their participation in band. Unfortunately, many families are not able to purchase instruments for band. Attending a summer band camp is often unimaginable or impossible.

Let's work together to change these disadvantages. Will you help expose more youth to the opportunities that music offers? Our goal is to send 10 young people in grades 5-12 to the GSU Summer Band Camp . Funds will pay for registration-$335 per student-which includes meals and lodging for one week (July 5-11, 2015). This fundraising campaign will not only help broaden horizons, but it is also expected to build the World Famed Tiger Marching Band .

After positive experiences at the summer camp as middle school - high school students, some of the participants are likely to attend GSU as college freshmen. I realize this is a lofty goal, but it's just the beginning! Future goals of the Color Us Splendid (CUSP) Foundation, Inc., include sending students to STEM Camps, tennis camps, etc. Your donations will be appreciated for years to come! Thank you.
