Please Help Marissa

A tragic event almost destroyed my granddaughter's life.

She was in a near fatal car accident, her then boyfriend was driving her car, lost control and hit a tree. Though she was the victim, Marissa is the one who was charged.

Her boyfriend immediately put the blame on Marissa when police arrived. Marissa told police she was not the driver, though her injuries made it hard for her to speak. There were no eyewitnesses. Police did little to investigate evidence and the DA’s office immediately charge her. Marissa was facing 12.5 years in prison and was forced to hire a lawyer and private investigator. Quick action allowed DNA evidence to be obtained that exonerated her.

This accident has put a huge emotional and financial strain on her and her family. Her car was totaled, attorney fees and court costs have depleted the family’s savings. Marissa is a 2nd year engineering student, because of her injuries she wasn’t able to work most of the summer.

Our state has no process to reimburse a victim that was wrongly changed, so if you can give a little assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.
