Hallo ihr Lieben,

unsere Namen sind Alex und Manuela. Wir sind jetzt seit 4 Jahren in Kenia und hier ist unsere Kurzgeschichte:

Wer sind wir:

Alex 55 jähriger gebürtiger Münchner mit gehöriger beruflicher und privater Auslandserfahrung innerhalb Europas, den USA und nun seit 4+ Jahren in Kenia! Ehemaliger Manager, Menschen- und Tierfreund, Schlaumeier und manchmal Stur Kopf, frei nach “Wer nichts wird, wird Wirt! Wenig Erfahrung am Bau aber die hat die Manu!

Manu: Ein vom Bau kommendes Kind aus dem Osten Deutschlands. Danach viele Jahre in der IT als Relationsship- und Support Manager tätig. Und jetzt halt in Kenia. Die Menschen hier sind so lieb und “anders” Wir lieben es, wir lernen von ihnen und ich glaube, sie lernen noch mehr von uns.

Und jetzt unser Herzens Anliegen:

Grüne Oase in Kenia: Shimoni Smugglers Bar & Restaurant - Solarstrom & nachhaltige Gästehäuser aus Plastik- und Glasflaschen — Rettet uns, wer kann!

Problem: Leider warten wir jetzt seit über einem Jahr auf Strom von Kenya Power, obwohl die Hauptüberlandleitung nur ca 50 m entfernt ist. Letzter Stand der Politiker: „Wählt mich 2027 und ihr bekommt hier alle Strom“

Die nächste große Herausforderung hier in Kenia ist die Umweltverschmutzung mit Plastik, Glas, Metall,… Alles landet einfach mitten im Busch beziehungsweise in der Natur, weil zum einen die Möglichkeiten der Entsorgung fehlen und zum anderen das Verständnis der Kenianer bezüglich Umweltschutz und die allgemeine Verrottung von Plastik, Glas, Metall, Zigarettenstummel, etc. Nicht vorhanden ist, frei nach dem Motto “Aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn”. (Siehe Foto, dort steht ein Container, der zwar nicht ausreichend ist, aber die Leute schmeißen ihren Müll daneben)

Unsere Lösung:

1. Eine 10 kW Solaranlage. Diese ist sauber, nachhaltig, unabhängig.

2. Gästehäuser aus benutzen Flaschen, sowohl Plastik als auch Glas! Wir bauen somit einzigartige Unterkünfte, der Müll wird reduziert und die Natur kann Atmen.

Unsere Vision:

Wir wollen den Einheimischen und den Touristen eine nachhaltige Alternative zeigen, welche sehr gern zum Nachahmen geeignet ist. Dies gibt positive Eindrücke und Wirkung für alle Gäste und Touristen.

Soziale Wirkung:

Hier in Shimoni im Osten von Kenia ist die Arbeitslosigkeit sehr sehr hoch.

Wir bieten Ausbildung und eine faire Anstellung Einheimischer, während des Baus und später während des laufenden Betriebes. Dies ermöglicht insbesondere die Bildung ihrer Kinder (es besteht Schulpflicht, aber erst müssen Schulgebühren und Uniform gezahlt werden, sonst werden die Kinder wieder nach Hause geschickt), die Ausbildung von Lehrlingen während des Baus und später als Zimmermädchen, Koch, Gärtner, Kellner, Autowäscher.

Konkrete Ziele:

Kosten Solaranlage: ca 10.000 €

Kosten eines Gästehauses: ca 2.000 €

Flaschen sammeln - Arbeitszeit und Mittag für Helfer

Baumaterialien wie Zement, Sand, Steine, Holz, Makuti (Dacheindeckung), Galanaplatten (für Boden und Nasszelle)

Septiktank (Dreikammer Kläranlage)

Rohre, Kabel, Steckdosen, Schalter

Gemauertes Bett

Toilette, Waschbecken, Duschbrause

Arbeitszeit der Arbeiter incl. Wegegeld und Mittagessen

Lampen, Bettzeug, Moskitonetz, Handtücher…

Ihre Spende für Solar bringt Licht und schafft Jobs.

Ihre Spende für die Flaschenhäuser beseitig Müll, schafft Unterkünfte und Arbeitsplätze und bildet aus. Besonders für die Kinder, unsere Zukunft, ist es wichtig eine gute Bildung und Ausbildung zu haben. Hier in dieser Gegend ist die Jobsituation sehr sehr schlimm.

Hello everyone, 

Our names are Alex and Manuela. We've been in Kenya for four years now, and here's our short story. 

Who are we: 

Alex, a 55-year-old Munich native with extensive professional and personal experience abroad in Europe and the US, has been in Kenya for four years and more! Former manager, lover of people and animals, smart aleck, and sometimes stubborn, according to the saying "If you can't make it, you better become a bar owner!" Little experience in construction, but Manu has that! 

Manu, a child from the construction industry in eastern Germany. After many years in that area she continued working for many years in IT sector as a relationship and support manager. All of that before ending up in Kenya. The people here are so kind and "different." We love it, we learn from them, and I believe they learn even more from us. 

And now our heartfelt concern: 

Green oasis in Kenya: Shimoni Smugglers Bar & Restaurant - solar power & sustainable guesthouses made from plastic and glass bottles — save us, if you can! 

Problem: 

Unfortunately, we've been waiting for electricity from Kenya Power, the only land line provider for over a year now, even though the main transmission line is only about 50 meters away and a few monetary incentives were given! The latest politicians' stance: "Elect me in 2027 and you'll all get electricity via Kenya Power." 

The next big challenge here in Kenya is environmental pollution with plastics, glass, metal, etc. Everything just ends up in the middle of the bush or in nature, because, on the one hand, there are no real disposal options, and, on the other hand, Kenyans don't understand environmental protection and the general decomposition of plastics, glass, metal, cigarette butts, etc., true to the motto "out of sight, out of mind." See photo; there's a container there, which isn't big enough for 2.000 folks living in Shimoni, so people throw their garbage next to it once it’s full! The dumpster gets picked once a month and burns twice a week until pick up, yet the garbage beside the dumpster remains on the ground! 

Our solution: 

1. A 10 kW solar system. This is clean, sustainable, and self-sufficient way to power everything!

 

2. Guesthouses made from used bottles, both plastic and glass! We are thus building unique accommodations, reducing waste, and allowing nature to breathe. 

Our vision: 

We want to show locals and tourists a sustainable alternative that is highly recommended for emulation. This creates positive impressions and impacts all guests and tourists plus the locals! 

Social impact: 

Here in Shimoni in the of the Indian Ocean coastal area of Kenya, unemployment is very high. We offer training and fair employment for locals, both during construction and later during operation. This enables, in particular, the education of their children (school attendance is compulsory, but school fees and uniforms must be paid first, otherwise the children are sent home), the training of apprentices during construction and later as chambermaids, cooks, gardeners, waiters, and car washers. 

Specific goals: 

Cost of solar system: approximately €10,000 

Cost of a guesthouse: approximately €2,000

We would love to have 4-5! For the later it includes the collection of bottles - labor and lunch for helpers. Building materials such as cement, sand, stones, wood, makuti (roofing), galana boards (for the floor and bathroom). A septic tank (a three-chamber wastewater treatment plant), piping, cables, sockets, switches, a masonry bed, a toilet, sink and shower. The labor cost of workers, daily transport expenses and lunch money. It also includes lighting, bedding, mosquito net, towels, etc. 

Your donation to a solar system brings light and creates jobs. Your donation to the bottle houses removes waste, creates housing and jobs, and provides training. It's especially important for children and their future, to have a good education and training. 

The job situation here in this area is very, very dire. Please help us. Every Euro or Dollar is worth its weight in gold. Come visit us and see and feel it for yourself.
