Hello, my name is Christian Huntsinger, owner/operator of Grumpy’s Electric Tattooing, and I’ve been serving this town for about 15 years, now.
As many of you know, hurricane Idalia hit the Florida Panhandle Wednesday morning. What you may not know, is it made it’s initial landfall about 15 minutes away from my shop, which is also located directly under where my family lives - in an apartment above it - in Perry, Florida.
Idalia ripped through our town, and destroyed several other properties, just as it did our own. Unfortunately for us, my families home, and business, is tied together in one.
The past 48 hours, we’ve seen various news station personnel march around with their cameras at the nearby destruction, filming the worst parts of the wreckage across the street, while completely avoiding actual attempts at helping people like us, who have had our home and business flooded by having our roof ripped off in the midst of the hurricane, which led to water damage, and yet unknown amounts of mold and water damage.
We’ve been without power, and can hardly sort through the damage.
So, with not much in savings, I’ve had to move my family, which consists of my fiancé, and two sons, one of which is on the autism spectrum, and one of which who has recently left his typical post-graduate expectations to invest himself in the family business.
Along with this, we’ve barely been able to actually relocate to these places we can’t even afford, because our only vehicle has been badly damaged as well - an entire roof flew onto it, broke the back window, side mirror, and cracked the front windshield, as well as doing damage to the vehicles frame, which we have yet to know the full cost of.
We’ve of course tried the government assistance programs, but we haven’t yet heard back from some, and likely won’t for many more days, and many others we don’t qualify for because we’re actually renters, instead of homeowners. And regardless of those, we still have our normal bills coming up which most of the billing companies offer little support in these unfortunate times.
So, as a last resort, we are asking for help from anyone who sees this post. We aren’t used to this kind of thing, and it feels unusual to us, but we don’t know what else to do. So, I ask, if you can spare it, please donate to help my family relocate our home and business, which has been ruined by hurricane Idalia. It is my hope that one day I can pay all of you back with my continued service in the area. Thank you for reading, and for your support.
