Support the Grube’s during Cam’s Leukemia Battle

Donation protected
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 27, 2024 unfortunately Cam has relapsed and the family will be in Little Rock for a 30 day admission process while Cam starts his chemo again. This relapse looks a lot different from his initial diagnosis. He will need a bone marrow transplant this time. Once he receives the BMT, the family will have to live in or around Little Rock (no more than 1 hour from the hospital) for a minimum of 100 days. Not only will they need to pay for living expenses in Little Rock, but also maintain living expenses at their home in Prairie Grove. Amanda will do the majority of the caregiving for Cam during this time and will not be getting paid from her job while doing so. The family really appreciates any and all donations to help with the expenses during this extremely difficult time.

Hi, my name is Andrew Adams. I received a call this past week that changed our best friends of 15 years landscape for the next 6 months. We are asking for donations to help this little warriors family to be able navigate better through this already very difficult time. In setting this up, my goal was to break it down from a 0 to 6 month time frame so I could better understand it. So for the next 6 months the plans are as follows. Month one the family will be staying at the hospital to help care for their son while he is receiving treatments, Months 2 - 6 they will be going for one week each month to The Arkansas children’s hospitals for chemo treatments. Story of the situation from the parents below…. On June 22nd, our lives got flipped upside down. Rewind a few weeks, Cam hit a massive growth spurt. He got very fatigued and was just not being his normal self. His energy dropped drastically, he was cold all of the time and just became very fatigued. We brushed it off as his body growing quickly, slimming down due to the growth spurt and puberty. We noticed he had several bruises on his legs and asked what happened. He said he wasn’t sure and must have hit them and didn’t realize. The bruises concerned John and I and we discussed possibly needing to take him to the doctor for a blood panel to check for anemia. Cam kept pushing and thought he just needed to get outside and force his body back to normal. Thursday June 22, 2023 ••• I was just about to leave for work and was talking to Cam in the kitchen. I turned around and started walking off when all of the sudden a loud thud happened and I heard this terrible scream and cry come from my son. I immediately turned around to see my son on the floor crying with terror and pain. His legs had completely given out on him and he hit the floor. I rushed him to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Springdale. This hospital visit did not go the way I expected. We got the most heart shattering news a parent could receive. Our extremely healthy 12 year old boy has been diagnosed with Leukemia. Cam was flown to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock to be seen by an oncologist and confirm the diagnosis. It was when we got to Little Rock where we got even worse news. Not only had our healthy boy been diagnosed with Leukemia, he was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of Leukemia called AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Tests upon tests started. Cam’s platelet count was 4 and should have been between 350-450. His red and white blood count were also extremely low. He has had several blood and platelet infusions. His numbers have very, very slowly started to increase. We received some good news in all of this bad news. All of Cam’s organs are 100% healthy. As of right now, the Leukemia has only stayed within his blood. He had a bone marrow biopsy Friday and a CVL (central venous line) placed in his chest on Saturday. After the CVL was placed, the same day he received his first round of chemo. Cam will be hospitalized in Little Rock for the next month and John and I will be out of work and here with him 100% of the way. During this month, he will receive extensive chemo treatments. After the month, he will have another bone marrow biopsy to see if the chemo has started doing it’s job. We will get to go home for about 2 weeks and then will be right back in Little Rock for a week to continue his second month of chemo. This will continue for the next 6-7 months. Due to the aggressiveness of the Leukemia, he will need a very aggressive chemo treatment. We have all the faith in the world and I know God has his healing hands over my baby boy. Arkansas Children’s Hospital has an amazing care team and they have a plan. We need all the prayers we can get. We ask that you all ask for healing for our boy. This is going to be a long, hard and brutal journey we take but Cam is so strong. We are trying our best to put the negative behind us and only focus on the positive. Hug your babies extra tight because your world could change in an instant! Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would ever be in this position. Especially this fast. His Leukemia came on extremely fast and hard. #CANCERSUCKS #leukemia #acutemyeloidleukemia #bloodcancer #warrior
